Thoughts On Isaiah Chapters 28-32

In my morning quiet time today, I read through Isaiah from chapters 28 to 32, but I was truly struck by the way Isaiah’s warning in chapter 28 about the false prophets, teachers, and government officials of his day, is also a warning against false prophets, teachers, and government officials of our world today.

I was also struck by the way GOD points out that the way Calvary Chapels teaches using the expository method is the way GOD has always wanted men to be taught.

This is a powerful repetitive prophecy, that eventually came true in Isaiah’s time, and is currently unfolding before our eyes today. So many times Isaiah’s prophecies have foreshadowed events that were to come thousands of years in his future.

This drunkenness being referenced in 28:7 was a literal problem in Isaiah’s day, which like today we see a similar problem in people who are drunk like in their complacency by not striving to please the Father but rather, being absorbed by pleasing themselves and being content while believing their own man made wisdom and righteousness exceeds that of GOD’s.

The important part is how the drunkards are mocking Isaiah for his knowledge and wisdom. They were implying that his teachings were so simplistic that Isaiah must have been directing his teachings to the simple minded while they believed they were the elites and had the true wisdom of the day, and thus much greater thinkers than Isaiah, and that his followers couldn’t possibly understand the depth of things as they do.

Sound familiar?

It should, because that is what today’s elites tell us about their vast superiority over us simpletons when it comes to topics like Climate Change, Transgenderism, and abortion rights.

It is ironic how they mocked Isaiah by saying his teaching of precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, hear a little, there a little. Does not this mimic today’s false Christians who deride the style of teaching we use at Calvary Chapels?  Calvary Chapels place great importance on the practice of expository teaching, a “verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book” approach to teaching the Bible. After all, this is exactly how the Holy Spirit has set up the Scriptures for us to teach. He is loving, patient, and offers us the ability to learn bit by bit, each progressive bit of knowledge building upon the previous. This is how we learn of His ways.

This is why it is so important to read the WHOLE Bible, building a foundation of Scriptural knowledge in your heart, mind, and soul that all of the prophets and our Messiah taught from first. We must allow the books that contain the very voice of GOD that speaks to us to absorb into us, just we allow water to absorb into us for survival. For the Word is the living water that nourishes our very soul. If we fail to understand all of the Scriptures from Genesis to Malachi, then we cannot understand or hold in proper context of what we read from Matthew to Revelation.

The the same phrase they used to mock Isaiah shows their path to condemnation for God’s precepts. GOD’s Word came to the ancient prophets and teachers as they do to us, bit by bit, bit by bit, line by line, teaching upon teaching – and all of this they rejected, as they do today. Regardless of the repetitive warnings and attempt to bring them around to see the truth.

Just as our Father in heaven warned the false prophets, teachers, and corrupt government leaders, of Isaiah’s days, so too is HE is warning the current ones. MY WORDS says GOD shall be understood through precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. (28:13)
Wow.

Not only have people turned from GOD and His wonderful covenants, but they have made their own covenants the very things that will ultimately lead to their destruction, as Isaiah tells us they are covenants of death. This leads me to evaluate and look at my life, examining to see what I hold holy.

True holiness only comes from the Father but so often we create our own counterfeit holy things and hold them higher than our regard for the Father’s wisdom, teaching, and commandments.

Have you at times done this? Have you caught yourself holding things as holy in your life that were actually counterfeit? We need to beware of our thoughts and our teachings, and what we allow to permeate into our minds and hearts. Never, ever allow the lies of this World to become a refuge or falsehood to become our shelter.

Lord Jesus I pray those who have ears to hear, will hear and believe Your Words and come to accept Your saving grace which is offered by the work on the cross by the Holy Lamb.
Amen
